Imagine going in for your annual mammogram. I mean you go faithful to get the mammogram done so maybe this time you will just put off the appointment.
You really are just not feeling it, but you decide to just go and get it over with. I mean it comes back normal every time so there is no reason to not just go and get it over with.
So, you decide to go in for your routine exam. You come back for the results to hear that you have a lump that is cancerous. Your ears begin to ring. I mean how is that possible? You go all the time. It never is anything. How can that be?
Your world is like a whirlwind after that. You go in to have the lump and lymph nodes removed. You are told its stage 1 and has a high cure rate. After more labs and testing, you find out that it is actually stage 2 and will require a more aggressive approach and more test. Yet after more tests, you find out that your stage 2 cancer has a high reoccurrence rate and now requires a stronger approach to treatment which includes two rounds of two different chemo medicines and several weeks of radiation.
This is a true story for one woman and that woman is someone near and dear to us. Our stepmom, mom, grandmother, and friend.
In honor of our stepmom, Cindy Wengert, Perfectly Pastry is going to be offering something new. We have created a cupcake in honor of her and her fight against breast cancer.
As a stepmom she has always done everything she can to treat everyone equally. She has never seen us as my kids/ your kids. It has always been our kids.
She has seen us through many trials and tribulations in our lives from struggles of depression, unexpected pregnancies, rough relationships, life-altering news, and so much more.
Not only has she supported my sister and I, but she has always welcomed my mom into her life. She does not see my mom as just the ex; but instead as part of the family.
With open arms she invites us to all be together and thrive together as a happy family. No chaos, no bull, just a family together with love and support.
When we first announced that we were going to start a bakery together, she did not laugh. She did not try to talk us out of it. Instead, she said “sign me up”. She has been there cheering us on and helping us whenever she can to grow and chase our dreams.
So in honor of everything she has done for us and everything she has helped us accomplish, we have created a new cupcake in our shop called “Fight Like A Girl”.
Start April 5th 2021- until June 30th 2021, for every Fight Like A Girl cupcake sold at Perfectly Pastry, we are going to donate $0.50 to help cover the cost of treatments and travel for Cindy’s fight against breast cancer.
After June 30th 2021, we will retire the cupcake flavor until the month of October where we will release the flavor again each October to help raise money for the Susan G. Coleman Foundation.
We hope to use our business to help both Cindy Wengert and other women who have to experience such a life-altering disease.
